Galway Bay fm newsroom - The government has turned down the latest application for funding for the refurbishment of Loughrea's historic town hall.
The sale of the iconic building to a private party is looking increasingly likely, as the County Council struggles to find feasible funding options for its renovation.
Loughrea area councillors have been informed that the most recent bid to secure funding from the government has been unsuccessful.
Its the latest in a series of attempts to get the major refurbishment project underway.
Councillor Shane Donnellan says the iconic hall may end up being sold off to a private indvidual or group who is capable of carrying out the required works.
