Galway Bay fm newsroom - Long awaited safety works for the Kilmeen cross junction on the N65 near Loughrea have begun today.
The process to install safety barriers on the problem junction began this morning, with work set to be complete within 6 weeks.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland is currently engaging with Galway County Council over proposals to install a roundabout which may address safety concerns at Kilmeen Cross.
It's understood that no decision has yet been reached on whether a roundabout is the best option, but the TII is actively considering the recommendation.
