Galway Bay fm newsroom - A local TD has told the Dáil it's now common knowledge that parents must go to court to get children with disabilties the support they need.
Deputy Claire Kerrane was speaking during a debate on the HSE's continued failure to carry out needs assessments within six months, as laid out in legislation.
She argued the Government has since created a new screening exercise that could be referred to as a pre-assessment to an actual assessment.
However, Deputy Kerrane said this is ultimately of no benefit to the child or their parents - and is simply an attempt to cover up the blatant failures of the HSE to meet its obligations.
Sinn Fein Deputy Kerrane argued the Government is forcing parents into major battles to secure their children's needs - including legal action.
