Local TD says awarding of ATU Galway contract to BAM controlled firm raises questions

A local TD says the awarding of a contract for building works at ATU Galway to a BAM controlled-company raises a number of questions.

BAM is the main contractor on the National Children's Hospital project, which has incurred enormous cost overruns.

Deputy Mairead Farrell says a company it controls has now been awarded contracts for works at several third level institutions, including ATU Galway.

She claims a huge issue is that technological universities cannot borrow to finance accommodation building projects - meaing they will probably rely on public private partnerships.

Sinn Fein Deputy Farrell says this method has has proven to be extremely expensive in the past but the Government has failed to change it.
