Galway Bay fm newsroom - A local senator has pledged her support for a new law which will allow councillors to attend meetings and vote remotely.
Green Party Senator Pauline O'Reilly says a new bill will be introduced through the Seanad tomorrow to allow elected representatives to attend meetings and vote from home - and if it's passed, it will move to the Dáil.
She says the law is vital during the pandemic so that local issues are not delayed and argues it could also benefit councillors with babies as currently, local representatives receive no maternity leave.
Senator O'Reilly told Galway Talks the Covid-19 lockdown highlighted the need for such legislation.
