Local Property tax in Galway City is set to increase by 15 per cent.
It's after councillors approved the measure in a contested vote at City Hall this afternoon.
It's the first time LPT has been increased since 2013 - and it's predicted to generate an additional €7m over the next five years.
It came down to a razor's edge - with 9 councillors supporting the increase, and 9 opposed.
Mayor of Galway Peter Keane held the deciding vote that ultimately saw it passed.
It follows a similar move from Galway County Council in recent weeks, to increase LPT by the maximum 15 per cent allowed.
Speaking to David Nevin, Mayor Peter Keane says it was a difficult decision to make.
