Galway Bay fm newsroom - Landlords and tenants in the Athenry/Oranmore and Gort-Kinvara areas are being advised to brush up on new rent pressure zone legislation.
The call comes from the Residential Tenancies Board who've launched a general awareness campaign on the new legislation.
19 new rent pressure zones were designated last month including two new areas in Galway.
The two new county zones have joined three Galway City zones previously designated covering the entirety of the city.
A rent pressure zone means that rent in the area cannot be increased by more than 4 per cent each year for both an existing tenancy or a new let.
For an area to be designated a rent pressure zone the average rent must be over the appropriate level for that area and rent inflation must be over seven per cent in four of the last six quarters.
The average rent in the Athenry/Oranmore and Kinvara-Gort areas is higher than the national average at €975 a month.
