Galway Bay fm newsroom - Kylemore Abbey is to get a new monastery building.
The Kylemore Trust has been granted planning permission for the new building and car parking at Pollacappul in Connemara.
The new 2 and 3 storey monastery building will be located near the existing chapel building at Kylemore Abbey.
Kylemore Trust has also secured permission to demolish and rebuild and existing sacristy area and make some changes to the access bridge from the visitors' car park.
Kylemore Abbey is a protected structure.
The development has been granted with 9 conditions attached.
One condition stipulates that before the development begins, a Construction and Demolition Management Plan must be submitted to the local authority.
Also, all environmental, construction and ecological mitigation measures set out in the Ecological Impact Assessment and Natura Impact Statement must be implemented.
