Just one public payphone in Galway features in Top 50 most used

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Only one public payphone in Galway features in the top 50 most used payphone locations nationwide.

Those resident in Dublin are most likely to use payphones with 43 of the 50 most popular payphones found in the capital.

According to the Irish Times, public payphones appear disproportionately popular in Kerry, as four of the top 50 can be found in Killarney.

Cork and Galway have just one phone each in the top 50.

Leitrim is the only county without any payphones.

In 2008 there were more than 3,500 payphones nationwide.

This fell sharply the following year as part of a major rationalisation programme which saw the company, then trading as Eircom, take almost 2,000 out of service.
