Galway Bay fm newsroom:
Just 13 households in the city have availed of state grants to replace potentially harmful old lead pipes since the scheme was set up three years ago.
Despite a campaign by Irish Water - which estimates that there are thousands of homes in the country that were plumbed with lead pipes - only 71 householders nationwide have availed of the grant.
According to today's Irish Times, since the scheme was introduced in 2016 just over 186 thousand euro has been paid out to help homeowners replace lead pipes and plumbing in their homes.
