Initially the county council refused planning permission to JFC Manufacturing Limited for the apartments at Abbeytrinity.

The company appealed that decision to An Bord Pleanála, which has now overturned the refusal by the county council.

The development involves converting the first floor of the building at Abbeytrinity from retail and coffee shop iuse to 17 apartments.

The county council had refused planning permission having taken regard of the lack of private open space and satisfactory parking.

In the appeal to the higher planning authority JFC argued that the development has 62 basement car parking spaces.

They argued that the requirement for apartments would actually be less than the requirement for retail which was already granted planning permission.

An Bord Pleanála has decided to overturn the council's refusal and approved the apartments for Abbeytrinity.

The board states that the development wouldn't create a traffic hazard if strict conditions are adhered to.

There are 9 conditions attached to the grant of planning permission.
