Residents of Inis Meáin are accusing Galway County Council of delaying the development of CaladhMór pier on the Island.
The first two phases of ‘An Caladh Mor’ were completed in 2008 but 12 years later, the third and final phase has been further delayed due to an ongoing study on the project underway at the Marine College in Cork.
The current study which was due for completion last year has been further delayed due to the pandemic, with locals claiming it is unnecessary in the first place due to the existence of an extensive report on the project by consultants Kirk McClure in 2005.
The 2005 survey modeled the effect on the pier of storms ranging from once in a decade to once in a century storms.
Local businessman Tarlach de Blácam, says phase 3 works are the least expensive of the plan and would allow cargo ferries to safely access the CaladhMór pier.
