Galway Bay fm newsroom - Irish Water is now "reviewing" the future of the Carraroe Wastewater Treatment Scheme after planning permission was granted for a different development at the preferred site for a treatment plant.
Campaigners have long argued that the location at Sruthán Pier was never an appropriate site for a wastewater treatment plant.
They recognise that the scheme is essential to stop raw discharge into Cosla Bay - but say more suitable site options should have been explored a long time ago.
An Bord Pleanála has now granted permission for a Marine & Cultural Heritage Centre at Sruthán Pier.
Raising the matter in the Dáil, Deputy Catherine Connolly wanted to know what Irish Water now plans to do.
And she wasn't happy with the limited response she received from Minister Malcolm Noonan that Irish Water are "reviewing" the situation - to hear Deouty Connolly's Dáil contribution, tune in to FYI Galway@5
