Irish Water issues warning about pesticide use on Ballinasloe land

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Irish Water says it has detected exceedences in a pesticide in the River Suck in Ballinasloe.

It has found two above-limit detections of MCPA in the past two months.

Irish Water is urging users of pesticides in the area to use best practice when spraying otherwise Ballinasloe Regional Water Supply could be placed on the EPA's Remedial Action List.

Ballinasloe takes its water from the River Suck and farmers in the catchment are urged to be vigilant.

Irish Water says there is no threat to public health but MCPA, which is commonly used to kill rushes on wet land, could end up in drinking water if not managed correctly.
