Galway Bay fm newsroom - Irish Water says it's working to restore supply to a large portion of the city centre due to an outage in the Dock's area which has forced many restaurants to close their doors.
The outage is affecting businesses and homes in the Augustine Street, Middle Street, Flood Street and Cross Street areas.
Many eateries have been without supply since yesterday afternoon and have raised concerns over a lack of information on the status of repairs.
A spokesperson for Irish Water says an outage arose yesterday after a private contractor carried out works in the Quay Street area and encountered difficulty with a water hydrant.
Irish Water crews went onsite and completed repairs last evening.
However, the utility adds that a number of new complaints are being investigated this morning.
Businesses with concerns are asked to contact the helpline on 1850 278 278.
