Galway Bay fm newsroom - Irish Water will begin a major upgrade of piping on Inis Mór next week. (29/1)
Working with the county council, Irish Water says it will replace 596 metres of problematic water mains on the largest of the Aran Islands.
Included in the project is the decommissioning and replacement of around half a kilometre of ageing public water mains along Coast Road, Kilmurvy Road and Church Road.
The existing old cast iron pipes will be replaced with modern new high intensity plastic pipes.
The works on Inis Mór will also involve laying 24 new water services connections from the public water main to customers' property boundaries and connecting them to customers' water supplies.
Pressure management works will also be carried out in Upper Kilronan and Mainistir and there may be fluctuations in water pressure while the work is carried out.
The work on Inis Mór will begin next Monday and is expected to last 6 weeks.
Irish Water says the improvements will benefit all premises which have been affected by disruptions due to leakage in the past.
