Work is to get underway on the resurfacing of the pedestrian path that runs along the rail line from Renmore to Eyre Square.
Councillor Shane Forde says Irish Rail has confirmed the works will get underway early next year.
Fine Gael Councillor Forde says talks are also ongoing on the City Council taking over control of the walkway once the works are finished.
