Irelands largest wind farm in Connemara becomes operational

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Ireland's largest wind farm, based in Connemara, has entered commercial operation.

The 169 megawatt Galway Wind Park based at Cloosh Valley in Connemara is developed by SSE and Coillte.

Galway Wind Park near Oughterard will offset over 220 thousand tonnes of CO2 emissions and the power generated will be provided to SSE Airtricity.

The wind farm has 58 Siemens wind turbines which its estimated will produce enough green energy to power over 140 thousand homes each year.

SSE and Coillte are also developing a multi-million euro community fund to recognise the co-operation and needs of local people, which will remain in place for the lifetime of Galway Wind Park.
