Galway Bay fm newsroom - The INMO has warned that public health nursing services in the Ballinasloe and Portumna areas are facing emergency closure later this week due to understaffing.
The nurses union says the services are facing closure by Friday due to what it argues is the HSE's refusal to fill two thirds of the posts.
Ballinasloe and Portumna PHN services typically have six nurses, but are now facing four vacancies due to maternity leave, resignation and reassignment.
Local PHNs, their managers and the INMO have notified their employers that the service will be forced to shut on Friday, unless the vacant posts are filled.
This would impact a wide area including oncology patients, acute hospital discharges, new mothers and child health referrals.
