Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organistion says it's working on difficulties facing students at University Hospital Galway in terms of future employment.
It's understood student nurses at the city hospital were informed today by hospital management that only a percentage would be given employment by the HSE, once they graduate in a few weeks.
It's understood many student nurses are distressed at the news which could now mean many having to seek work in hospitals abroad.
The INMO says it's working with managers, staff and students at UHG to resolve the problems.
A meeting between the union, staff representatives and management is set to take place next week.
The INMO says like all hospitals, UHG is short on nursing staff and no Irish hospital should be turning away highly-skilled, well-trained graduate nurses.
