Councillor Mary Hoade raised concerns about future garda resources for the Headford area, while Councillor Peter Roche said he would like to see a garda re-stationed in Corofin.

Councillor Seosamh Ó Cualáin told the meeting that in recent weeks a crime was reported to gardaí in Connemara and claims it took 27 hours before gardaí responded.

He added that "a garda would cycle down from Dublin quicker".

Chief Superintendent of Galway Garda Division, Tom Curley told the JPC that it's his preference to fill sub-districts such as Corofin and he has made an application for resources.

He said it will take 31 staff to get the new model up and running and he would hope for a total of 60 additional staff by the end of the year.

Chief Superintendent Curley told FYI Galway that the public can expect to see more local gardaí over the coming months.
