Galway Bay fm newsroom - The HSE is considering launching another international campaign to recruit nurses to fill vacancies in the public health service across Galway and the west.
The matter has been raised at HSE Health Forum level by Tuam area councillor and forum chair Mary Hoade.
The Saolta hospitals' group has revealed that there were 97 permanent and 109 temporary nursing staff hired last year for UHG and Merlin Park.
So far this year, 80 nurses have been hired.
A number of the temporary contracts filled last year were filled by student nurses, 59 of which will be offered permanent positions.
