Galway Bay FM newsroom- No additional beds are earmarked for UHG under the HSE's Winter Plan - from an allocation of 205 extra beds being provided nationwide.
The matter was raised at an Oireachtas Health Committee by Senator Sean Kyne, who pointed out the plan itself notes serious overcrowding issues at the city hospital.
He wanted to know how the Winter Plan applies to UHG and what it will do to tackle the severe pressure being experienced.
It was acknowledged by senior HSE officials that there are significant issues at UHG and a difficult winter lies ahead.
However, HSE National Director of Acute Operations, Liam Woods, said there will be no extra beds on-site.
