Galway Bay fm newsroom - The HSE West has issued a public appeal to adhere to public health measures following a tripling in COVID 19 cases in Galway.
Over the past five days, a dramatic increase in case numbers has been recorded across the HSE West with numbers doubling in Mayo and tripling in Galway.
The positivity rate in the walk-in centre in Galway city is now 14%, while the rate at the Carnmore base is 9.3%.
The age-specific 14 day incidence rate in Galway's young adults ranges from 500 to 832 cases per 100,000.
Dr Breda Smyth, Director of Public Health for HSE West says this cohort of the population is largely un-vaccinated.
She told Galway Bay fm news, Covid-19 is circulating at pace in the population and a fourth wave in the West is now evident.
