Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Housing Strategic Policy Committee has approved a plan to to split the area of choice of Athenry, Claregalway and Oranmore into two.
It follows a meeting of the group last month.
Under the plan, the townlands along the M17 are to be used as the appropriate boundary.
Loughrea area councillor Joe Byrne is Chair of the Housing SPC - he says it provides a tighter range of choice in an area with one of the greatest levels of housing demand.
