Galway Bay fm newsroom - Housing Minister, Simon Coveney, says Travellers have to be accommodated as much as settled people on social housing waiting lists.
The city council has recently set out its plans to establish Traveller sites at locations on the east and west of the city.
The local authority bought a site at Ballymoneen Road in Knocknacarra for 10.5 million euro in 2007 and the field has remained vacant since.
However, it could become Ireland's most expensive halting site if it is used for a hardstand.
The Public Accounts Committee looked into the purchase of rthe 10 million euro site which was valued at 6 million euro a year prior.
Speaking in Galway this week, Minister Coveney said he didn't want to get into the specifics of city council purchases.
