Galway Bay fm newsroom - A number of houses in the Clifden Glen area have been evacuated by fire service water rescue teams from after the Owenglen river overtopped.
A number of properties in the centre of Clifden have also flooded and fire crews are in attendance.
The N59 at Kylemore and the stretch between Maam Cross and Recess are now both impassable due to flooding.
Local diversions are being put in place and Gardaí and fire crews are attending the affected areas.
Gardaí are warning motorists to slow down and avoid the areas if possible.
It follows a period of heavy rainfall overnight and this morning with further rainfall expected today.
