Hospital numbers increase in Galway as Omicron variant of Covid-19 spreads

Galway Bay FM Newsroom - Hospitals are under extreme pressure due to the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, as up to 6,000 frontline Healthcare are on Covid-related leave.

Figures for Galway Hospitals released yesterday evening has seen increases in both hospitals in the last 24 hours.

As of 8pm yesterday evening, there are now 34 in Galway University Hospital and 15 in Portiunucla Hospital in Ballinasloe.

This is an increase of 10 in GUH and 3 in Ballinasloe on the previous 24 hours.

The numbers of patients in ICU for both hospitals remains somewhat steady with 6 in Galway University Hospital and 2 in Portiunucula, an increase of 1 in Galway with no change for Ballinasloe

Nationally, the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital was at 758, up 41 on the previous day.

87 patients are being treated in ICU for Covid-19.
