Galway Bay fm newsroom - A decision to grant approval to Irish Water to install new water reservoir infrastructure on Inis Meáin has been overturned by An Bord Pleanála.
The county council granted planning permission to Irish Water late last year for the provision of raw water storage tanks on the middle of the Aran Islands.
However a local resident appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála and has been successful in having the decision overturned.
The objector, who is a resident of the island, appealed for an oral hearing on the plans by Irish Water.
She said she is not opposed to plans for water infrastructure at one location on Inis Meáin but has concerns in relation to a second location.
An Bord Pleanála has refused permission for the works, but states that it accepts the need in principle to improve water storage on Inis Meáin.
