Galway Bay fm newsroom - US multi-national HID Global has officially opened its new European Centre of Excellence in Galway City.
The local workforce is expected to triple over the next 3 to 5 years.
HID Global specializes in secure identity technology and manufactures a wide range of physical products and security software.
The US based multi-national established its first presence in Ireland at Tully in Connemara in 2006.
It currently employs 250 people in Ireland, and that number is expected to reach 300 by the end of this year.
The new European Centre of Excellence, based at Mervue Business Park, is a 7,980sqm facility designed with sustainability in mind, to support HID's goal of becoming a net zero company by 2050.
The firm says the availability of highly skilled staff in the region, proximity to an international airport and strong language skills in the area have been key factors in the company’s decision to locate in Galway.
HID Global expects the Galway workforce to triple over the next three to five years - with recruitment efforts already ramping up as the ribbon its cut on its new state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the city.
