Hearing loss charity shocked at redeployment of Galway based audiologists to COVID-19 testing roles

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A deafness and hearing loss charity has voiced concerns about the redeployment of Galway based audiologists to COVID-19 testing services.

Chime says its shocked to learn that a large number of paediatric hearing specialists have been redeployed across counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

The charity is warning the reduction of hearing services could potentially have significant consequences for deaf children.

Meanwhile, Chime has also learned that five of the nine Community Healthcare Organisations nationwide have been affected by the redeployment.

It comes as concerns have also been raised this week over the redeployment of speech and language therapists in Galway to contact tracing roles.

Galway parent Evelyn Casserly, whose daughter Hollie has hearing difficulties, told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks the situation is very serious.
