Galway Bay fm newsroom - Health insurance companies owe Galway's public hospitals more than 21 million euro.
The payments owed relate to the treatment of private patients in public-hospital facilities.
It is the second-highest amount owed to public or voluntary hospitals in the State, according to figures revealed by the Minister for Health this week.
A total of 36 million euro is owed to the six hospitals in the Saolta University Healthcare Group, which includes UHG and Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
Fine Gael TD for Galway West Hildegarde Naughton says action needs to be taken to ensure the struggling hospitals get what they're owed.
