A Greater Galway Charter has been launched to help create a sustainable, inclusive, resilient and proud city over the next 50 years
The launch took place at St Nicholas'Collegiate Church, and is intended to spark a cross community discussion about long term planning and design of public spaces for the next generations
The charter was signed by Mayor of Galway Eddie Hoare, University of Galway President Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, ATU President Dr Orla Flynn, and President of Galway Chamber of Commerce Dermot Nolan.
The momentum was accelerated by a major conference held at St Nicholas’ in April on the theme of Re-imagining the Irish City and Town, also organised jointly by the Academy of Urbanists and the RIAI.
The charter also takes inspiration from similar documents including Germany's Freiberg Charter.
