Galway Bay fm newsroom - The government has announced almost €100 thousand in funding for The Galway Hospice Foundation.
The funding has been allocated under the Department of Social Affairs and Social Protection's Dormant Accounts Funding.
Dormant Accounts Funding is generated through unclaimed accounts in credit institutions - such as banks - and unclaimed life assurance policies.
Under this programme, €98 thousand has now been allocated to the Galway Hospice Foundation, to provide for a training programme to provide support to carers in post care transition.
The target group are those who were end of life carers and the scheme will help address social and economic disadvantage by helping them re-engage socially.
Other organisations to benefit from the latest round of Dormat Accounts Funding are Family Carers Ireland - who will receive €338 thousand - and the Irish Foster Care Association - which has been allocated €90 thousand.
