Government accused of ignoring the West with delays in appointing design team for UHG cancer centre

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Government is being accused of ignoring the West as delays remain in appointing a design team for a dedicated cancer centre at UHG.

The purpose Model 4 hospital for cancer treatment was promised under the National Development Plan for 2021 to 2030, but is currently stalled.

The west and north-west of Ireland have the highest incidence and mortality rates of cancer in the country.

Professor Michael Kerin, Director of the Saolta-University of Galway Cancer Network, says the delays are costing lives:
