Go ahead for new Salthill apartment block despite objections

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The City Council has approved plans for a new apartment block in the heart of Salthill.

John and Jennifer Lillis have been granted planning permission to demolish an existing apartment building at 12 Lower Salthill and replace it with 5 new apartments.

The apartment building to be demolished at Lower Salthill forms part of an existing terrace of buildings.

The new development will consist of 5 apartments with parking and amenity space.

Objections against the proposal had been submitted to city planners, claiming that there would be overlooking from windows and balconies and that the building would overshadow neighbouring properties.

In granting permission for the new apartments, planners imposed 18 conditions.

A qualified conservation specialist must be hired to monitor the removal of any elements of architectural significance.

Also proposed bicycle stands at the front of the building must be omitted from the plans.

Another condition stipulates that only one shared satellite dish will be permitted and its location must be agreed with the local authority.
