It's as The Atlantic Technological University - an amalgamation of GMIT, Letterkenny IT and IT Sligo into a single institution - will be officially opened next week.
The new TU will offer over 600 academic programmes from pre-degree to doctoral level to a student population of 22 thousand students across eight campuses.
The governing body of the Atlantic Technological University will meet for the first time tomorrow.
Current GMIT President Dr. Orla Flynn has been appointed as the inaugural president.
Alongside Minister Simon Harris, she'll be officially launching the new technological university at ATU Sligo on Monday.
Dr. Flynn says this is a huge step forward for education in the wider region.
