Galway Bay fm newsroom - Gas Networks Ireland has failed to secure approval for a significant development at Father Burke Road in the city.
An Bord Pleanála has refused permission for a district regulation installation base at Father Burke Park.
The project had secured approval from city planners in September last year, but was later subject to a third party appeal.
The development consisted of a solid concrete blockwork enclosure with a pitched roof and concrete base galvanised steel vent stack, and associated facilities.
In refusing the proposal, the board noted its location in a public park adjoining a public path and road, as well as proximity to residential properties.
It felt that with regard to its nature, scale, design and landscaping treatment, the development would not integrate in a satisfactory manner into the visually prominent area.
It was considered that the development would not be acceptable in terms of visual and residential amenity, and would not be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
