Gardai to carry out technical exam at scene of fatal Furbo collision

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Barna to Spiddal Road in Furbo remains closed this morning to facilitate a Garda technical examination following a fatal collision last evening after which a pedestrian died.

Gardaí are investigating the suspected hit and run incident which occurred on the R336 in Furbo shortly after 7.30 last evening.

Gardai were called to the scene shortly after 7.30pm and a female pedestrian aged in her 50s was discovered with serious injuries.

It’s believed she was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.

The woman was then taken to University Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

A post-mortem exam is set to place at a later date.

The road has since been closed pending a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators this morning.

Gardaí in Salthill are appealing to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the Furbo area between 6.15pm and 7.15pm to make this footage available.
