Gardai report no major public order incidents in Galway overnight as 19 are arrested in Dublin

Galway Bay FM Newsroom - Gardai in Galway have reported no major pubic order offenses overnight as the city experienced large gatherings on the Friday and Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Large crowds had gathered in parts of the city to enjoy the fine weather and the Bank Holiday but Gardai again have issued stern warnings in the wake of last weekend's behaviour and the worries expressed by public health officials about the spread of coronavirus.

Gardai are appealing to people to socialise responsibly if meeting up outdoors - and officers will be patrolling popular spots like watersides, parks and beaches.

However, in Dublin, 19 people have been arrested following a second night of trouble in the city centre.

Gardai say a group of around 200 young people threw glass bottles at officers on South Anne Street, and the public order unit cleared crowds from the area.

Gardai came under fire again in Temple Bar Square - a number of streets were sealed off and 19 people were arrested for public order offences, including two aged under 18.

10 people have been charged and will appear in court at a later date.
