Galway Bay fm newsroom: The Gardai and fire services have begun a number of planned patrols at known wildfire hotspots across the county.
The clamp-down aims to prevent the illegal burning of dry vegetation which is prohibited from the start of March to the end of August.
Lighting such fires in dry, warm, windy conditions can lead to uncontrollable blazes which pose a serious danger to the public.
The Garda helicopter will also be assisting in the planned operation.
