Galway Bay fm newsroom - 316 fraud offences have been recorded across the county so far this year.
The latest Garda statistics reveal 'card not present' fraud is the most common in the county with 93 such offences recorded.
The second most common is deception with 73 such offences, and phishing or smishing frauds with 54 on record.
There were 49 incidents of account takeover fraud in the eight month period and a further 20 cases of shopping or online auction fraud.
A meeting of the County Joint Policing Committe heard mutiple calls for a targeted awareness campaign to address the recent rising number of phone scams involving fake texts and calls.
