Gardaí ask parents to speak to children in renewed appeal over teenager injured by firework in Rahoon/Knocknacarra

Gardaí are now asking parents to speak with their children, as part of a renewed appeal for information after a city teenager was seriously hurt by a firework.

Lauren McGowen was struck in the face at Millars Lane in Rahoon/Knocknacarra, shortly before 8pm on Halloween night.

Lauren was hospitalised after the incident, having suffered a very serious injury to her right eye.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed with doctors unsure what the long term prognosis will be.

Earlier this week, her father Patrick issued a heartfelt plea on Galway Talks for people to share anything they might know about what happened to his daughter.

In a renewed appeal for information, Gardaí say there was a large number of people around Millar's Lane at the time.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of the playing pitches or Millars Lane itself between 7pm and 8pm, or who might have camera footage, is asked to come forward.

Gardaí are also asking parents to engage with their children to see if they witnessed the incident, or may have any information that might help the investigation.

They say all information will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
