That's according to Galway Chief Superintendent, Tom Curley who told a meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee that the facilities are available at the new Regional Garda Headquarters in Renmore.

Chief Super Curley told the JPC meeting that he has recently replaced all staff vacancies within the drugs squad in Galway.

Chief Superintendent Curley revealed that the detection of drugs for sale or supply in the city was down by a fifth since the start of the year.

However he said that in the last six weeks there has been a seizure of crack cocaine in the city describing it as 'never a good thing'.

Chief Superintendent Curley says there are still a lot of drugs out there and sniffer dogs would be a valuable addition to the Galway team and that Commissioner Drew Harris is keen to set up the canine unit in Galway.
