Galway Bay fm newsroom - A particular incident of Garda work off the Connemara coast has been highlighted in a policing report
The incident off a Carraroe beach is referenced in the 'Success' section of the July report to the Policing Authority.
In July, members of the Garda Water Unit were on operational duty off Inis Mór, Aran Islands, when they received a 'Pan Alert'.
The urgency signal was used to request any vessel at sea to assist two swimmers who were in difficulty off Coral Strand, Carraroe.
The Garda Water Unit members were at the scene within 10 minutes where they observed two swimmers in the sea.
Assisted by a local lifeguard, The Garda Water Unit successfully retrieved both swimmers from the water and they were taken safely to shore.
The Aran Islands work is among several incidents of notable police work praised in last month's report to the Policing Authority.
