Galway Bay fm newsroom - A special general meeting of Galwegians RFC has voted overwhelmingly in favour of selling its city grounds to GMIT.
There was a 99 percent consensus from club members at the virtual event approving the sale of Crowley Park on the Dublin Road.
The grounds are adjacant to Flannery's Hotel and just two minutes walk from GMIT.
In a post on social media, the club has heralded the development as a "significant milestone" as it plans for a better future.
The sale - understood to be worth close to €10m - would allow Galwegians to proceed with long-running plans to develop a major new facility.
Galwegians was founded in 1922 and currently has an active community of over 700 players and members.
