Galway Bay fm newsroom - The level of Covid infection in the Galway area is highest in the 19 to 24 and 9 to 12 age cohorts.
Galway has a 14 day incidence rate of 2,143 in the 19 to 24 year old age cohort.
This is twice the infection rate in the 9 to 12 year old group which stands at 1,004.
Dr Breda Smyth, Director of Public Health in the West, told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks the level of infection in Galway is predominantly in the younger age group.
She says the daily case count in the West region is now at one of its highest levels in the pandemic.
Dr. Smyth says it's now vital that the basic measures of hand washing and social distancing are brought back into sharp focus in a bid to protect the most vulnerable.
