Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway-based youth counselling service will remain open until the end of the year at least, following a commitment from the HSE.
The Health executive has pledged to fund the free service up to the end of 2017.
Last week, the Dáil heard that the service requires funding of 35 thousand euro to keep the doors open - which equates to just 175 euro per child availing of counselling.
The service, operated by Youth Work Ireland Galway, offers non-referral counselling to young teenagers in the city, Tuam, Ballinasloe and Loughrea.
Oireachtas members will now seek to meet with Minister Jim Daly, the Minister of State for Mental Health to discuss the matter further and seek to ensure that funding is secured for next year.
Galway East TD Sean Canney says it's vital the service is maintained.
