Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway West / South Mayo T.D is calling for a complete overhaul of the Leader programme in a bid to speed up the delivery of funding to vital projects.
The initiative aims to provide rural communities with the resources to enable local partners to actively engage and direct the local development of their area, through a community-led focus.
Galway West Fianna Fail TD Eamon O'Cuiv claims in the three and a half year period since the launch of the last programme, no money has been spent as yet.
He says there are up to 18 stages involved in the assessment process and has described it as a 'bureaucratic nightmare'.
Deputy O'Cuiv says the community focused programme is now dominated by the level of red tape and lacks tangible action.
