Galway Bay fm newsroom - Representatives of Galway Traveller Movement have walked out of City Hall during a heated discussion on the city Traveller Accommodation Plan.
A meeting this afternoon is currently dealing with the plan, after councillors failed to agree on future plans for Traveller accommodation at a special meeting two weeks ago.
Councillors were outlining their views that halting sites are a 'failed concept,' when two representives of GTM got up and left the meeting.
A special meeting of the local authority held on February 20th failed to reach an agreement on the matter.
A motion put forward at that meeting by councillor Peter Keane, which suggested excluding halting sites as an option, was sent forward for legal advice.
The council has been advised that such a suggestion would be unlawful under the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act.
